PITTSBURGH, Pa. - April 22, 2023 - Chatham Softball hosted Franciscan University tonight in a PAC doubleheader. The Cougars would come out with two wins in just 10.5 innings, having scored 17 runs. The final scores were 8-0 in six innings and 9-0 in 4.5 innings, respectively.
In game one, first-year Victoria Murren struck out eight Barons, but also led the Cougars at the plate with three RBIs on two hits.
Seniors Kaitlyn Collins and Alyssa Hoffman also had two hits apiece, and both registered an RBI. Senior Mackenzie Dunn, sophomore Isabelle Griswold, and junior Savanna Ahlborn drove in one run each.
Seven of Chatham's runs came in the fifth, while the walk-off eighth run came just two batters into the sixth.
The Cougars wasted no time racking up runs in game two, scoring two in the first, four in the second, and three in the fourth. Collins and senior Justine Boyle each had two RBIs, while Dunn, Ahlborn, senior Lauren Haak, graduate student Kelsey Benjamin, and first-year Kayleen Garcia were responsible for one each.
Boyle, Garcia, and graduate student Paige Shaftic each hit a double. Shaftic and Haak were the game's leaders in hits with two apiece. Haak also stole a game-high three bases.
In the circle, first-year Cailyn Lucas picked up her third career win, striking out five Barons.
With the pair of wins, the Cougars improve to 6-10 in conference and 11-21 overall. They look to continue their streak on Wednesday, April 26th at home against PAC opponent Westminster.
