Dunn Notches 100th Career Hit, Cougars Split in PAC Twin Bill at Bethany

BETHANY, W. Va. - April 19, 2023 - Chatham Softball traveled to Bethany College this afternoon for a conference doubleheader with the Bison. The Cougars would earn a decisive 9-5 victory in game one before falling 14-4 in game two.

In game one, the Cougars got off to an early start, scoring four runs in the second. Senior Lauren Haak scored classmate Alyssa Hoffman and sophomore Isabelle Griswold with a single before senior Mackenzie Dunn hit her first of two doubles to score Haak and first-year Victoria Murren.

The Cougars would pick their offense back up in the second, with Dunn again doubling to score Murren. She was followed by classmate Kaitlyn Collins, whose single brought in two runs. Hoffman would drive in the final run of the game to score Collins, and the Bison were unable to bounce back from the run deficit.

In the circle, Victoria Murren earned her seventh win of the season, pitching a complete game and striking out five batters.

Game two began with a Mackenzie Dunn triple to bring in the first run, but Bethany's offense would surface throughout the first and third innings. They would score ten runs before the Cougars responded, but it would be Griswold who hit a two-run homer in the fourth to get the Purple and White back on the board. She was followed by senior Justine Boyle, whose plate effort brought in Lauren Haak for the fourth and final run of game two.

With Dunn's four hits today, she surpasses 100 career hits in less than three full seasons. So far in her senior campaign, she boasts 33 hits, five doubles and triples apiece, and six home runs.

The Cougars are back in action on Saturday, April 22nd for their senior games against Franciscan. First pitch is scheduled for 5 PM at West Field.
