PITTSBURGH, Pa. - March 8, 2023 - Chatham Men's Lacrosse hosted non-conference opponent McDaniel this afternoon in their home-opener. After a tied first quarter, McDaniel would break open the scoring and Chatham would be unable to catch up.
First-year Trent Griffin was the first to get on the board with help from junior Isaac Joshi, and he was followed shortly after by sophomore Ethan Rinker. McDaniel would score a goal after each Chatham goal to leave the score knotted at two heading into the second quarter.
Rinker would score to open the second quarter and put the Cougars up 3-2. After two quick Green Terror goals, first-year Thomas Whitaker tied the game for a third time with an assist to classmate Alex Stanuikynas.
McDaniel would score seven straight goals throughout the end of the second quarter and all of the third.
The Green Terror scoring spree was interrupted by Rinker to complete his hat trick, and first-year Jacob Lubawy was credited with the assist. First-year Matt Woodall scored the Cougars' sixth goal, with Griffin earning an assist in the effort. Griffin himself would score the Cougars' final goal with junior Riley Lewis assisting.
In goal, sophomore Zen Smith made 18 saves, just two shy of his career and program-high 20 saves in a single game.
Junior Tanner Cindrich led the Cougars with seven ground balls and two caused turnovers. Senior Clark Styles won 14 of 22 face-offs.
The Cougars are back in action at UPMC Graham Field on Saturday, March 11th, at 4 PM in another non-conference matchup against Adrian.
