Baseball Takes Final Game in Florida With Walk-Off Winner

AUBURNDALE, Fla. - March 4, 2023 - Chatham Baseball snapped its six-game losing streak Saturday morning with a 6-5 walk-off win against Albion College. The Cougars went 2-6 in Florida and are now 4-6 overall on the season.

The Britons got on the board first with a run in the top of the second, but the Cougars responded for three in the bottom of the third. Graduate outfielder Nico Cuello singled to center to score junior outfielder Frankie DeLuca. Cuello then scored on a wild pitch, and sophomore first baseman Quinn Burke singled to bring in graduate catcher Caleb Lehman.

Albion made it 3-2 in the fourth, but sophomore catcher Tyler Cote continued to swing his hot bat, driving in Lehman and Cuello with a single in the seventh to increase the Chatham lead to 5-2. Cote leads the team with 11 RBI on the year.

The Briton mounted a fierce comeback in the eighth, tying the game at 5. However, it was Lehman who got the last laugh in the bottom of the ninth, notching a walk-off double that scored junior infielder Benny Dottle.

Lehman was 3-5 with two doubles, two runs scored and the game-winning RBI. Cote was 1-2 with two RBI and drew two free passes. Junior pitcher Dom Costellic got the start for Chatham, going 4.0 innings with four strikeouts, two hits allowed and two earned runs. Sophomore pitchers Kole Mayle and Gavin Phillips each threw two scoreless innings out of the pen, with only one hit allowed a piece. Mayle earned the win in relief.

Baseball returns to Pittsburgh on March 12 when they host a doubleheader against Oberlin College.
