PITTSBURGH, Pa. - March 16, 2023 - Chatham Baseball earned a 10-0 victory Thursday night over the Penn State Fayette Lions. The game was called in the bottom of the seventh inning after the Cougars took a 10-0 lead. With the win, Chatham is now 5-6 on the season.
Junior right hander
Dom Costellic started the game for the Cougars and had success early on the bump, striking out four batters in the first two innings, with all of them going down looking.
The Cougars kicked off the scoring with three runs in the bottom of the second. The first of which came from senior third baseman
Brandon Griener, who scored on an inside-the-park home run to center field. Chatham's second run of the inning came on an Penn State Fayette error after
Dylan Vogel stole second, which brought in sophomore first baseman
Quinn Burke. Vogel then scored on a sac fly from junior
Jake Bredl.
The Cougars put up another three spot in the fourth, with two bases loaded singles and a bases loaded walk.
After another scoreless inning from Costellic and a scoreless frame each from
Zack Oddi and
Dawson Morrow, the Cougars would end things in the bottom of the seventh. Vogel singled with the bases loaded to drive in sophomore
Tyler Cote. Bredl then cleared the bases with a three-run triple that was ultimatley the last play of the night.
Costellic ended the day with 5.0 scoreless innings, eight strikeouts and the win. Bredl went 2-3 with a triple and four RBI. Junior infielder
Benny Dottle was 3-4 with an RBI of his own.
Baseball is back at West Field on Sunday with a doubleheader against Penn State Altoona.
