PITTSBURGH, Pa. - March 25, 2023 - Chatham Softball hosted PAC opponent Saint Vincent today in their conference opener. Chatham would take the first game 3-2 before Saint Vincent bounced back for a 6-3 victory in game two.
The Cougars got up early in game one, with graduate student Kelsey Benjamin hitting a two-run infield single to put the Cougars up by two. Saint Vincent would tie the game at two in the third, but the next half inning saw another RBI from Benjamin to take the lead for good.
In the circle, first-year Victoria Murren won her fourth game with seven strikeouts in a full seven innings pitched, with zero walks and seven hits against.
Game two saw its first Cougar run thanks to senior Mackenzie Dunn, who first stole third then advanced home on an errant throw. The Cougars' second run would be driven in by senior Alyssa Hoffman on an outfield single, driving in sophomore Isabelle Griswold.
A late rally led by senior Justine Boyle would warrant a run in the fifth thanks to a center field single, and Hoffman would score.
First-year Cailyn Lucas suffered the loss in the circle for the Cougars in game two, allowing only four hits and walking four batters.
The Cougars are knotted at one in the conference after tonight's split. They stand at 4-12 overall ahead of their next contest slated for Thursday, March 30th at Waynesburg.
