Men’s Lacrosse Drops One-Goal Game to Neumann

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - March 18, 2023 - Chatham Men's Lacrosse hosted Neumann this afternoon in a non-conference matchup at Graham Field. The Cougars would fall by just one goal after coming back from a three-goal deficit.

Neumann would get up by three early, and it would take until the latter half of the quarter for the Cougars to get on the board. First-year Thomas Whitaker could capitalize on a pass from junior Isaac Joshi, and this was followed by an unassisted goal from sophomore Ethan Rinker.

The Knights would score twice more in the second, holding the Cougars off offensively in the process.

The Cougars bounced back in the third, starting with a combined effort from first-years Alex Stanuikynas and Trent Griffin. Classmate Jacob Lubawy would be the next Cougar on the board, going for two straight. Stanuikynas assisted on Lubawy's second goal, which was scored man-up. Rinker scored his second of the day just thirty seconds later, still man-up, and cited Lubawy on the assist.

Chatham's explosive third quarter would tie the game at six, but a final goal from the Knights would seal the deal before a scoreless fourth quarter.

Senior face-off specialist Clark Styles won 11 of 17 face-offs and had a team-high seven ground balls.

Defensively, sophomore Thomas Curtin caused three turnovers. Classmate Zen Smith made 16 saves in goal.

The Cougars stand at 3-5 on the season with just one non-conference matchup remaining. The Cougars will host Baldwin Wallace on Wednesday, March 22, at 7 PM at UPMC Graham Field.
