Women’s Hockey Earns Weekend Split After Overtime Victory

REISTERSTOWN, MD - February 4, 2023 - Chatham Women's Hockey faced off against Stevenson yet again on the road this afternoon. After last night's 5-4 overtime loss, the Cougars were able to earn two points of their own today after a 3-2 overtime win.

The Mustangs would strike first a mere two minutes into the game, but the Cougars were not far behind. Graduate defenseman Ashley Marchant banked a snapshot off of the Stevenson defenseman's shin pads, causing the puck to redirect just out of the goaltender's reach and into the net.

Knotted at one, the Cougars would score the lone goal of the second period on the power-play. Junior Allison Corser-James drove the net after receiving a pass from senior Brooke Almond, putting the Cougars ahead going into the third.

Stevenson would open up the period with an equalizer, and neither team would score again in regulation.

With overtime forced, both teams turned on the offense. Stevenson got three shots off in the shortened period, but all three were turned aside by junior netminder Lilly Rogers.

At the other end, Chatham's fourth and final shot by junior Ally Nolan with just 22 seconds remaining would seal the deal. The coast-to-coast unassisted effort secured Chatham's two points in the weekend split.

Rogers finished the evening with 25 saves. In front of her, sophomore defenseman Sam Barrett logged a game-high four blocks.

Offensively, sophomore Chris Worms won a team-high 10 draws in the circle. Nolan, Marchant, Corser-James, and Almond each finished the game with a point apiece.

The Cougars now sit at 9-8-1 in conference play for 28 points. They look to officially clinch a playoff spot next weekend in their home series against Neumann, set for 7 PM on Friday and Saturday, February 10th and 11th at the Hunt Armory.
