PITTSBURGH, Pa. - February 4, 2023 - Chatham Men's Basketball secured a nail-biting 75-70 win over Grove City at the AFC on Saturday afternoon. The victory puts the Cougars at 11-10 on the year and 10-6 in conference play.
Sophomore guard
Isaiah Smith led the way for Chatham with 14 points and four assists. Graduate wing
Nick Bomar scored 12 points, grabbed seven rebounds and tallied two steals. Junior guard
Simon Boyer hit three triples on his way to 13 points. All five of Chatham's starters scored in double-figures.
The Cougars jumped out to a 6-0 run early thanks to two threes from Boyer, but the Wolverines countered with a 15-4 run. The two teams traded leads for the remainder of the first half, with Grove City leading by one heading into the break. GCC led by nine with 8:50 left, but a 10-0 Chatham run in the next two minutes turned the tide of the game. The lead changed hands multiple more times down the stretch, but it was Chatham that took control in the end to escape with the narrow victory.
The Cougars went 11-26 (42.3%) from beyond the arc, and were 14-17 from the free throw line. Grove City won the rebounding battle 42-27 and scored 20 second-chance points, but failed to capitalize when it mattered most.
Men's Basketball will hit the court again Wednesday on the road at Allegheny.
