WINTER HAVEN, FL - February 27, 2023 - Chatham Softball took on Eastern and Alma this afternoon at the Spring Games in Florida. Eastern would defeat Chatham 9-4 and Alma beat the Cougars 16-7.
Against Eastern, several Cougars notched a team-high two hits. Sophomore Isabelle Griswold, junior Savanna Ahlborn, and seniors Kaitlyn Collins and Justine Boyle all contributed at the plate, and Collins and Boyle each drove in a run. Also batting in a run was newcomer Kayleen Garcia. Graduate student Paige Shaftic had the lone steal for the Cougars.
Game two saw the Cougars down early, but that did not stop their offense from producing. Senior Mackenzie Dunn hit two home runs, and graduate student Kelsey Benjamin hit one. Dunn accounted for three of the Cougars' RBIs while Griswold and Benjamin contributed two and one, respectively.
In the circle for the Cougars today were first-year Victoria Murren and junior Addison Mangieri in game one. Murren struck out six batters in 4.1 innings pitched before Mangieri came in for the remaining five outs in the game.
In game two, first-year Chelsea Stabile started the game, striking out one, before classmate Cailyn Lucas finished the game and struck out two.
The Cougars continue spring break competition tomorrow, February 28, at 2 and 4:30 PM against Houghton and Cabrini at the Diamondplex.
