WASHINGTON, Pa. - February 22, 2023 - Chatham Women's basketball secured its first ever trip to the PAC Championship game by upsetting the #1-seed W&J Presidents on the road Wednesday night by the score of 57-40. The Cougars will visit the #2-seed Saint Vincent Bearcats at 4 PM Saturday for the title.
Sophomore guard
Ashlie Louden led the Cougars with 14 points on four threes and two free throws. Louden also paced the team with seven rebounds and five steals. First-years
Hannah Chenault and
Alyssa Laukus and sophomore
Emily Durkee each had 12 points. Durkee added six rebounds and three steals, while Laukus tallied four rebounds, three assists and three blocks. Sophomore guard
Aurielle Brunner did her best to fill up the stat sheet, with four points, six rebounds, four assists and four steals.
The two teams traded baskets for the majority of the first quarter, which made it look like it would be a back and fourth game throughout. However, the Cougars took a 9-8 edge late in the first on a three from Durkee, and the Presidents never regained the lead for the rest of the contest. It was all Chatham defense for all four quarters, as they allowed just eight in the first and third and just 12 in the second and fourth.
The Cougars held W&J to their lowest point total of the season. Astonishingly, the Presidents were held without a three pointer (0-23) or a free throw (0-4). Chatham, on the other hand, hit 12 triples and went 11-19 from the stripe.
