Whitaker Completes Hat Trick in First Win of Season

Box Score MARIETTA, Ohio - February 22, 2023 - Chatham Men's Lacrosse traveled to Marietta tonight for their second non-conference matchup of the 2023 season. What was initially a low-scoring fair turned into a 9-4 final in the Cougars' favor.

First-year Jacob Lubaway would score the lone goal of the first quarter with just two minutes to go. The Cougars would fall behind briefly in the second after two Pioneer goals, but sophomore Paul Freyre was quick to tie it, and first-year Thomas Whitaker would regain the lead thanks to a pass from Lubaway.

Chatham's hot start in the third was thanks to Whitaker, sophomore Ethan Rinker, and junior Isaac Joshi. Marietta could only muster two more goals in the entire game against Chatham's defensive force.

To round out the game, Whitaker completed his hat trick for his fifth goal in just two games. Classmate Matt Woodall would net his collegiate first, and Rinker would round out the night with a second goal, an assist going to Whitaker.

Thomas Whitaker finished his night with four points. Face-off specialist Clark Styles went 9-16 and collected a team-high six ground balls. In net, sophomore Zen Smith made 11 saves.

The Cougars stand at 1-1 ahead of their next contest at Rosemont on March 1.
