RYE, NY - February 11, 2023 - Chatham Men's Hockey faced off against Manhattanville again this afternoon after last night's 5-2 loss. The Cougars would completely change the narrative of the weekend, starting with a four power-play goal second period and ending with a 6-1 final.
After a scoreless first period, the game was still either team's to take. Chatham gladly took that opportunity, starting with a power-play goal from junior defenseman Chris Dusek, set up by senior Andrew Warhoftig.
The Cougars would double their lead minutes later, with yet another power-play goal from first-year defenseman Brendan Pomerantz - the second of his career. Pomerantz was assisted by classmates Bekk McClaine and Michael Hurst.
With one minute left in the period on another power-play, Warhoftig would find the back of the net for himself, helped along by first-years McClaine and Nick Cyprian. For good measure, the Cougars scored a fourth straight power-play goal just 22 seconds later. It was Dusek back for another, citing assists to Warhoftig and senior defensive partner Ben Lamm.
The Cougars would net two more goals early in the third before Manhattanville would score their first and only. Senior Tristan Hillebert lit the lamp in a solo effort before McClaine capitalized on a play set up by classmate Oscar Saarinen and Dusek.
Three Cougars left Rye this evening with three points: Dusek, McClaine, and Warhoftig. Cyprian and Hillebert both notched one point in addition to a team-high seven face-off victories each.
In the D-zone, senior netminder Ricardo Gonzalez turned away 42 of 43 shots faced.
With the win, the Cougars improve to 14-6-3 overall and 11-4-3 in conference. They are back home at the Hunt Armory next Friday and Saturday, February 17 and 18, when they host the Nazareth College Flyers in their regular-season finale.
