RYE, NY - February 10, 2023 - Chatham Men's Hockey traveled to Manhattanville College tonight for their regular-season series at the Playland Ice Casino. Despite scoring first, the Cougars were unable to build on their lead as the Valiants scored four straight, leading to an eventual 5-2 final.
Chatham's first-year Bekk McClaine would find the back of the net halfway through the first, thanks to assists from classmate Oscar Saarinen and senior Lucas Rothe. Manhattanville was unable to respond, as senior goaltender Ricardo Gonzalez stopped a whopping 15 shots at the other end.
The second period, however, finished in the host's favor. The Valiants scored four straight before the period was through, leaving the Cougars with ample work to do in the third.
A goal from first-year Caden Smith assisted by classmate Michael Hurst came just 16 seconds into the period, but Manhattanville would retake the three-goal lead eight minutes later.
Gonzalez finished the night with 31 saves. In front of him, senior Ben Lamm had a team-high five blocks, followed by sophomore Joshuwa Kalinowski with three.
First-year defenseman Brendan Pomerantz led the Cougars with four shots on goal, as did Smith and Hurst. In the circle, McClaine won a team-high seven draws.
The Cougars are back at Playland Ice Casino tomorrow at 3 PM as they look to split the weekend with the Valiants in UCHC play.
