Men's Basketball Defeats Westminster for Fifth Straight Win

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - December 9, 2023 - Chatham Men's Basketball (7-3, 5-2) earned its fifth straight victory with a 96-83 win over the Westminster Titans (5-5, 3-4) on Saturday at the AFC. The Cougars shot a season-high 54.1% (33-61) from the field and were 21-27 from the charity stripe.

Senior guard Simon Boyer scored 19 points to lead the Cougars. He was 6-10 from the field, 2-3 from deep and a perfect 5-5 from the line. Junior guard Blaine Gartley had his second double-double of the season with 10 points and a career-high 10 assists. Gartley added five rebounds, four steals and a block in 30 minutes of play. Graduate forward Elijah Sutton had 16 points, while junior guard Isaiah Smith scored 14 points with four triples. Sophomore guard Diaun Pinkett netted 13 points with five rebounds, five steals and four assists.

Four of the first five Cougar field-goals were three-pointers, with the first two coming from Sutton. Chatham followed that with an extended 23-7 run through the first half to take a double-digit lead. Chatham went into halftime with a 15-point lead and held a double-digit lead for the entirety of the second half, leading by as many as 19.

The Cougars shot 47.4% (9-19) from beyond the arc, including 7-11 in the first half. On the defensive side, they held the Titans to a total of four three-pointers, which ties the lowest by a Chatham opponent this season.

Men's Basketball returns to action Dec. 19 for a non-conference contest at Carnegie Mellon.
