HERSHEY, Pa. (Dec. 8, 2023) - The Cougars faced an early two-goal deficit in their matchup with the Lebanon Valley Flying Dutchmen (3-9-0, 2-5-0) before scoring seven unanswered points. This win ended a three-game skid for Chatham and marked their fourth win of the season.
The Dutchmen gained an early two-goal lead midway through the first, but the Cougars would close the gap before the close of the opening period. Freshman Andrew Martino scored his first career goal on a solo shot to bring Chatham within one with 43 seconds left in the period. The Cougars would then open the game up in the second.
In under a minute, Chatham tacked on two more goals early in the period to take a 3-1 lead. First, sophomore Caden Smith scored his third goal of the season off assists from classmate Nick Cyprian and freshman Kyle Contessa. Then, 17 seconds later Martino notched his second goal of the night with the help of sophomore True Crowe and freshman Michael Roby. Freshman Kadsen Johnson found the back of the net for his second career goal, followed by Roby's third goal of the year (credited by Contessa and sophomore Brendan Pomerantz). Finally, Martino aided junior Zack Conner on his second goal of the year, bringing the second-period total to five goals.
With the 6-1 advantage, sophomore Cristian Adragna found freshman Nicholas Babbie for Chatham's final goal . The Cougars stormed back down 2-0 to win the game 7-2.
Martino finished the night with three points to lead all players, while freshman Cameron Kuntar made 24 saves on 26 shots (.923).
The Purple and Gray will play Lebanon Valley again on Saturday at 7 p.m.
