PITTSBURGH, Pa. (Dec. 1, 2023) - The Cougars' six-game winning streak came to a close in a 3-1 loss to Nazareth (5-1-0, 5-0-0). The Cougars struggled to keep the puck out of their zone, losing the shots battle 40-17.
Nazareth would score the first goal nine minutes into the opening period. The shots on goal favored the Golden Flyers 15-9, and they would hold the 1-0 advantage into the second period.
Nearly three minutes into the second, Nazareth tacked on another goal on a power play. Then, five minutes later, the Golden Flyers increased their lead to three. Chatham was once again down in the shot count 4-14 and had two penalties in the period.
The final period saw the Cougars net their only goal. On a power play, junior Jessup Rainey found the back of the net off a rebound. The shots on goal still favored the Golden Flyers 11-4, and the Cougars racked up three penalties.
Fifth-year Brooke Almond was active in the circle, winning 9 of her 16 faceoffs. The Cougars set a new season high in blocks at 27, led by junior Samantha Barrett's 10.
Chatham will return to the Hunt Armory Ice Rink on Saturday at 3 p.m. for game two.
