Men's Basketball Wins Big Over Fredonia State

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - November 27, 2023 - Chatham Men's Basketball (3-3, 1-2) rolled to an 89-68 win over visiting Fredonia State (2-4, 0-0) at the AFC on Monday night. The Cougars matched their season high with 13 three-pointers, including five each from seniors Geoffrey Helm and Simon Boyer.

Boyer and Helm scored 21 and 17 points, respectively, to lead the way for Chatham. Senior Luca Robinson netted 16 points on 6-8 shooting and tallied five rebounds with four steals. Graduate student Elijah Sutton was the fourth Cougar in double-figures with 12 points, including 7-8 shooting from the free-throw line. Juniors Hunter Verling (10) and Blaine Gartley (8) combined for 18 rebounds and Gartley added five assists. 12 Cougars made their way onto the scoresheet, with freshmen Zavea Green and Seth Sager recording their first-career points.

Chatham took command from the start, opening the game on a 15-3 run, with seven from Robinson and six from Boyer. The Cougars shot 41.2% (14-34) from the field in the first half and went into the break up 39-24. Sutton and Helm buried threes on three straight possessions as part of a 17-4 Chatham run that gave them a 26-point lead. The Cougars took their largest lead of the game at 29 points with 1:53 to play after back-and-forth scoring down the stretch.

Chatham shot 43.3% (29-67) in the game and 34.2% (13-38) from beyond the arc. They were 18-27 from the charity stripe and have now shot 27 or more free throws in four of their six games this season. The Cougars won the rebounding battle 46-39.

Prior to the game, the 2022-23 PAC Champion Chatham Men's Basketball team was honored with their championship rings.
