BUFFALO, N.Y. (Nov. 21, 2023) - The Cougars routed the Hawks of Hilbert College (1-6-0, 0-0-0) in an 11-1 victory on Tuesday. The win marks Chatham's sixth consecutive and improves their record to 6-0-1 overall and 4-0-0 in conference play.
The Cougars waited until four minutes remained in the opening period before scoring their first goal. It was netted during a Chatham power play by fifth-year Brooke Almond with seniors Ally Nolan and Abi Fuzalyov assisting on the score. Then, in a span of five minutes, Chatham netted three more goals. The first was put in by sophomore Liv McTavish with Fuzaylov and junior Erin Carter assisting on the play. Senior Ally Nolan scored her first goal as Fuzaylov recorded her third assist of the period with McTavish aiding as well. The final goal of the opening period would be credited to senior Lauren Carmody with the help of her sister Cameron Carmody.
The second period saw the Cougars match the previous period's scoring output. Nolan scored her second goal of the night on a solo shot early into the second. Then, senior Kaylynn Savoy followed with her first goal of the season. Almond was assisted on her second score of the game by senior Allison Corser-James. Finally, Fuzaylov was rewarded for her playmaking on a setup by McTavish and Nolan. The score entering the third period was 8-0 in favor of Chatham.
Chatham would score three more times in the closing period with Nolan netting her third goal of the night for the hat trick. Freshman Alexandria Mupo recorded her first career goal, and Cameron Carmody was set up by junior Rainey Jessup for the Cougars' 10th and 11th goals of the night. Hilbert would score the last goal of the night, but the game was already out of reach.
The Purple and Grey took 60 shots to the Hawks 11. Senior Lilly Rogers was in goal the entirety of the game, making 10 saves and recording a .909 save rate. Almond is now tied for third in the United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) for total goals, while Nolan leads the UCHC in assists and is tied for the lead in points.
The Cougars' next match will be on Friday, Dec. 1 against three seeded Nazareth.
