Five Cougars Score in Women's Ice Hockey's Fifth Consecutive Win

PITTSBURGH, Pa. (Nov. 18, 2023) - The Cougars notched their fifth consecutive win with a 5-1 victory over Stevenson (1-7-0, 1-5-0). Five players scored in the season sweep of the Mustangs to improve Chatham's overall record to 5-0-1 and 4-0-0 in conference play.

Stevenson was the first to score and held the one-goal advantage throughout the opening period. The Cougars had multiple power play opportunities to score, but the Mustangs' defense thwarted all attempts. The second period, however, saw the momentum swing in Chatham's favor.

The Cougars' three-goal period was ignited by senior Allie Corser-James off assists from sophomore Annabel Lota and senior Ally Nolan. Two seconds later, junior Erin Carter would skip the puck between the Mustangs' defense to tally her first career goal. She was assisted by senior Abi Fuzaylov. Five minutes later, junior Samantha Barrett made good on a power play off assists from seniors Nolan and Fuzaylov. Heading into the final period, Chatham led 3-1.

Fifth-year Brooke Almond netted her fourth goal of the year on a power play with help from Nolan and Fuzaylov. Chatham's fifth straight goal was put in on a solo shot by Nolan, bringing the final score to 5-1.

With five different players scoring, three players tallied assists for the game. Nolan and Fuzaylov led the team with three each, while Nolan amassed four points on the afternoon. The shots on goal favored the Cougars 36-23. Barrett deflected 4 Mustang shots while senior Lilly Rogers made 22 saves behind her.

Chatham will travel to New York on Tuesday, Nov. 21 to take on Hilbert at 4 p.m.
