Men's Ice Hockey Splits Weekend with Neumann

ASTON, Pa. (Nov. 18, 2023) - In a loss to Neumann (3-5-0, 3-4-0), the Cougars split their season series with the Knights. Chatham failed to convert on two power plays late to tie the game, and now stands at 3-5-0 overall and 2-4-0 in the United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC).

Neumann was the first to and had the only score in the opening period. Chatham had scoring opportunities on two power plays to even the score but failed to convert.

Early into the second period, sophomore Nick Cyprian lit the lamp on a power play for his third goal of the year. The second-year forward was assisted by fellow classmate Bekk McClaine. Then, three minutes later, the Cougars would take the lead on a power play goal by junior Carson Grainer. McClaine and Cyprian assisted on Grainer's second goal of the season. Before long, though, Neumann would even the score on a short-handed goal, and then seal the game before the midway point of the second.

Out of seven power plays, Chatham converted on one. Two opportunities late in the final period presented themselves, but the Cougars could not find the back of the net.

Freshman goalie Louis Finnegan made 33 saves for a save rate of .917. McClaine won a team-high 17 draws.

The Purple and Gray will be back on the ice on Dec. 2 in Wilkes-Barre, Pa.
