Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Sutton's 33 Leads Cougars over Presidents

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - November 18, 2023 - Chatham Men's Basketball (2-2, 1-1) defeated W&J (2-3, 1-1) in a physical contest that saw 51 personal fouls. Two players on each squad fouled out and each team shot over 30 free throws.

Graduate student Elijah Sutton went 15-17 from the charity stripe on his way to a career-high 33 points. 15 free-throws made and 17 free-throws attempted are each new program records. Sutton leads all PAC players with 24.3 points per game on the year. Senior Simon Boyer led the team in both rebounds (11) and assists (5) on the day. Sophomore Diaun Pinkett tallied 15 points and contributed seven rebounds and six steals. He currently leads all PAC players with 13 steals through four games. Senior Luca Robinson scored 14 points on 5-9 shooting and pulled down four boards.

Chatham fell behind midway through the opening 20 minutes, but went on a 20-7 down the stretch to lead by 10 points, their largest of the day, and ultimately go into the break up 35-29. The Presidents kept things close, pulling level four different times in the final 10:22, but could not get over the hump to take the lead at any point down the stretch.

The game was decided at the free-throw line, where Chatham shot 78.8% (26-33) compared to W&J's 51.6% (16-31). The Presidents shot 49% (25-51) from the floor compared to the Cougars' 37.9% (22-58), but struggled from deep and could not overcome their woes from the line. Chatham out-rebounded W&J 40-34.

Up next for Men's Basketball is a home contest on Wednesday against the Geneva Golden Tornadoes.
