PITTSBURGH, Pa. (Nov. 17, 2023) - The Cougars beat the Stevenson Mustangs (1-6-0, 1-4-0) with one goal to improve to 4-0-1, 3-0-0 on the year. After tying with Buffalo State in their first game, Chatham has now won four straight.
A scoreless first period saw the shot count favor the Mustangs 8-7. Stevenson had multiple power play opportunities to score, but the Cougar defense held, fending off six shots. Junior
Lindsey Batz made eight saves in the opening period.
It would not be until the six-minute mark that Chatham would find the back of the net. Down a player, fifth-year
Brooke Almond forced in a loose puck in front of the net to mark the first and only point of the game. Stevenson had another power play to even the score but failed to get a shot off. The Cougars out-shot the Mustangs 10-5, with Batz saving all five opponents' shots.
The final period ended with 23 total shots between both teams. Chatham had a chance to score again in a man-up situation but did not capitalize.
The Cougars set a new season high for shots with 35. Seniors
Allie Corser-James (7) and
Ally Nolan (6) led Chatham with 13 combined shots.
Women's Ice Hockey will matchup with the Mustangs again on Saturday at 3 p.m.
