ASTON, Pa. (Nov. 17, 2023) - After being swept by Utica at home last weekend, the Cougars responded with a 3-2 victory over the Neumann Knights (2-5-0, 2-4-0). The Cougars capitalized on two power-play goals to end their two-game losing streak.
Neumann would light the lamp first in an opening period that saw four total goals scored. Then, midway through the first, junior
Matthew Doyle put the Cougars on the scoreboard off assists from seniors
Chris Dusek and
Lucas Rothe. The Knights would take a 2-1 lead with under six minutes to play before sophomore
Nick Cyprian found the back of the net on a power play. Juniors Doyle and
Carson Grainer assisted the second-year forward.
A 2-2 game would turn in favor of the Cougars after freshman
Michael Roby scored on a deflection during a power play. The first year was assisted by sophomore
True Crowe and senior
Aidan Girduckis. The third goal by Chatham would prove to be the game-sealing point, bringing the final score to 3-2.
The Cougars scored on two of their five power plays to take game one of the weekend. Roby now leads the United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) in game-winning goals with two, while Cyprian is tied for fourth in power-play goals.
Chatham will skate against Neumann again on Saturday at 4 p.m.
