WESTMINSTER, Md. - November 10, 2023 - Chatham Women's Basketball earned a convincing 73-56 win over the Stevenson Mustangs (0-1) in the first round of the Rebecca Martin Memorial Tip-Off Tournament. The Cougars are now 5-1 in season openers under head coach David Saur.

Junior Aurielle Brunner added six points, four rebounds, four assists and four steals, while junior Emily Durkee contributed six points and a career-high six steals to lead the defense. Junior Samantha Hardy and freshman Celi Portillo each sent back two Mustang shots and combined for 10 points.

The Cougars went on a 19-6 run in the first quarter to take command early. Stevenson battled back and narrowly won the second frame, but the Cougar defense smothered in the third, allowing just 10 points and holding the Mustangs to 2-9 from the field, including 0-5 from downtown. A three-point play by junior Zelimar Rodriguez gave the Cougars a 24-point lead in the fourth, their largest of the night.

Chatham won the rebounding battle 44-38 and had an 18-11 advantage on the offensive glass. The Cougars shot 41.2% (28-68) from the field and held the Mustangs to 34.5 % (19-55). Chatham forced 35 turnovers, which is more than they caused than any game last season.
