Men's Ice Hockey Defeated by Utica

PITTSBURGH, Pa. (Nov. 10, 2023) - The Cougars allowed six goals in their 2-6 loss against Utica (3-0-2, 2-0-1). A three-goal second period for the Pioneers proved to be the difference in the game.

Before the midway mark of the first period Utica had already scored twice. Freshman Nicholas Babbie would make it a one-goal game on an unassisted breakaway, but the Pioneers would gain more separation.

40 seconds into the second period, Utica lit the lamp for the third time. In under ten minutes, the Pioneers had chalked up two more scores to bring their total to five.

Entering the third period trailing 1-5, junior Evan Mitchell found the back of the net for the Cougars' second goal. The final Utica goal came with under seven minutes to play, bringing the final score to 6-2.

Chatham failed to capitalize on four power plays, which could have tied the game. Even with 14 blocks, the Cougars allowed 33 shots on goal.

Saturday's rematch will be at 3 p.m. at the Hunt Armory Ice Rink.
