PITTSBURGH, Pa. - November 10, 2023 - Chatham Men's Basketball enjoyed a 84-73 win over Carlow (0-2) in their season opener and game two of the Chatham Tip-Off Classic. The Cougars are now 4-2 in season openers and 5-1 in home openers under head coach David Richards.

Leading the way for the Cougars was senior Luca Robinson, a transfer from Grove City making his Chatham debut. Robinson scored a career-high 24 points on 6-10 shooting and pulled down eight rebounds. He was 4-6 from deep and 8-13 from the free-throw line. Graduate student Elijah Sutton, who returned to Chatham this season after spending three years at Saint John's (MN), netted 15 points of 5-8 shooting and collected six boards. Junior Isaiah Smith was the other Cougar in double-figures, with 11 points on 4-9 shooting. All nine of Smith's field-goal attempts came from beyond the arc. Senior Simon Boyer and junior Blaine Gartley each racked up five assists to lead the team, while sophomore Diaun Pinkett had six points, four assists, nine rebounds, a steal and a block.

The Cougars opened the game on an 8-1 run and never looked back. The Celtics came as close as one point in the second half but could not pull level at any point. In the second, the Cougars grew their lead to as many as 20 and were able to secure an anti-climactic finish.

Carlow shot 47.1% (8-17) from three but could not slow down the Chatham offense, which went 45.8% (27-59) from the field. The Cougars out-rebounded the Celtics 46-37 and scored 17 second-chance points to Carlow's nine.

Mount Union topped Gwynedd Mercy 89-82 in overtime in game one of the Chatham Tip-Off Classic. Tomorrow, Gwynedd Mercy will battle the Celtics at noon, followed by Chatham and Mount Union closing out the weekend at 2 p.m.
