PITTSBURGH, Pa. (Nov. 1, 2023) - Women's Volleyball swept Waynesburg (8-16, 1-8) to record their fourth straight win heading into their final regular season game. For the fifth time this year, the Cougars held their opponent to a negative hitting percentage, with Waynesburg finishing the match at -.008.
After going down 6-0 in the second set, freshman
Paige Watson blocked an attack, igniting a 25-8 Chatham run to close the set. For the match, the Cougars recorded four blocks, led by Watson's solo block. Freshman
Becca Gesner and senior
Jessica Taney walled up as well, each recording three block assists. Chatham defended 70 attacks overall, with senior
Meghan Dominek leading the match with 29 digs. Sophomore
Alyssa Leskovac chipped in 23 digs, and multiple other players recorded three or more.
Offensively, the Cougars recorded their sixth game of hitting over .240, closing the match at .244. Watson and Taney were nearly identical, hitting .429 for eight kills. Senior
Jena Williams led the match with 11 kills and points. Freshman
Ava Plunkard assisted on 24 kills, while junior
Natalie Keough set up 14. From behind the line, Leskovac served four aces to lead the Cougars to six total.
Women's Volleyball will close the regular season on the road against Washington and Jefferson on Saturday. If they can end the season with a win, the Purple and Gray will be alone for the top spot in the PAC.
