Five Cougars Selected as PAC Swimmers and Divers to Watch

TRAFFORD, Pa. - October 6, 2023 - On Friday, the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) released its Preseason Poll and Swimmers and Divers to Watch list for the 2023-24 Swimming and Diving season.

The Chatham Men's team was voted to finish sixth of seven PAC teams, coming in with 40 vote points, while the Women's squad was picked to finish seventh of eight teams at 44 vote points.

The Cougars had a total of five competitors tabbed as Swimmers and Divers to Watch: senior swimmer Karl Gangloff and freshman swimmer Caleb Trainum for the men and senior swimmer Abigail Glasspool, junior diver Ali Cowan and freshman swimmer Siera Schmitt for the women.

Last season, Gangloff was an All-PAC selection, earning a spot on the second team. At the PAC Championship Meet, Gangloff took ninth in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:55.20, eighth in the 200-yard freestyle at 1:50.63, and another eighth in the 1650-yard freestyle with a finish of 17:35.55.

Trainum, a Canonsburg, Pa. native, joins the Cougars from Canon-McMillan.

At last year's championships, Glasspool finished 11th in the 100 fly and 13th in the 50-yard freestyle while helping multiple relay teams to seventh (200-yard freestyle relay) and eighth place (200 medley relay, 400-yard freestyle relay) finishes.

Cowan earned a spot on the All-PAC First Team in 2022-23, scoring a 398.00 in the 3M and a 383.10 in the 1M for two second-place finishes. She qualified for NCAA Diving Regionals multiple times throughout the regular season.

Schmitt is an Irwin, Pa. native who joins Chatham from Penn-Trafford.

Swimming & Diving will open its season Oct. 14 with a home meet against Hiram, marking the first meet with new head coach James Koval.
