LATROBE, Pa. - October 25, 2023 - Chatham Men's Soccer clinched its second-ever PAC Tournament berth with a 3-0 win over the Saint Vincent Bearcats (2-6-2, 6-10-2) on Wednesday at UPMC Field. The Cougars finish the regular season 6-8-3 overall and 5-3-2 in conference play.
The Chatham offense started cooking early and often with two goals in the first 3:36. Freshman
Luke Matzelle scored the first with a flick over the keeper off the pass from sophomore
Sam Schoensee, and freshman
Azavier Coppin netted the second with a bending shot past the goalie and into the side of the net.
Coming out of half, the freshman
Anthony Holter added another for good measure when the Bearcat goalkeeper misplayed a bouncing ball into the box. Senior
Trevor Rose made two saves in net and kept Saint Vincent off the board.
The Cougars put seven shots on goal and matched the Bearcats with three corner kicks.
Men's Soccer will return to the PAC Tournament for the second time in the last three seasons. They entered as the four seed in 2021.
The Cougars will visit the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets in the PAC Quarterfinal on Saturday at 7 p.m.
