Men's Soccer Earns Draw With Geneva on Senior Day

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - October 21, 2023 - Chatham's Men's Soccer earned a much-needed point in the standings on Senior Day following a 1-1 draw with the Golden Tornadoes of Geneva (10-4-3, 7-0-2) who sit atop the PAC conference standings. The Cougars are now 5-8-3 on the season and 4-3-2 in conference play, which puts them fourth in the conference with one match remaining.

Geneva scored first off a set piece in the 33rd minute and held the lead for most of the match, until the Cougars were awarded a penalty kick after the Golden Tornadoes comitted a handball in the box. Freshman Luke Matzelle converted on the PK to level the match for his first career goal. It was also the first goal the Cougars have ever scored against Geneva.

It was a rather physical match, with three yellow cards given to each team. Geneva put four shots on goal to Chatham's three and the Golden Tornadoes took every one of the match's five corners.

Chatham seniors Charles Archer, Timmy Creamer, Julian Kroger, Anthony Quidachay and Trevor Rose were honored prior to the match. The Class of 2024 and the rest of the Cougars will have a chance to clinch a playoff berth on Wednesday in the regular season finale at Saint Vincent.
