PITTSBURGH, Pa. - January 7, 2023 - Chatham Men's Basketball defeated Thiel 68-62 at the AFC Saturday afternoon. The win makes the Cougars 7-7 on the season and 6-3 in conference play. Chatham is now 6-0 at home on the season.
Junior guard
Simon Boyer led the Cougars with 18 points, 15 of which came in the second half. Boyer was 4-10 from deep and pulled down six rebounds. Sophomore guard
Isaiah Smith scored 16 points and led the team with six assists. In his first start of the season, freshman forward
James Thomas scored 12 points on 6-10 shooting and grabbed eight boards in 24 minutes of play.
After the Cougars opened the game on a 7-0, the Tomcats pulled level at 14. The game remained neck and neck with a 34-34 score heading into the break. In the second half, neither team led by more than five until Boyer's three in the final minute gave Chatham a six point lead.
Chatham was out rebounded by Thiel 48-41, but the Cougars won the turnover battle 11-9. It was the fifth time this season that Chatham committed less than 10 turnovers. The Cougars made 11 three pointers compared to just four for the Tomcats.
Men's Basketball will be back in action Wednesday evening on the road against Waynesburg.
