Cintron Scores 1000th Career Point as Men's Basketball Downs Allegheny

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - January 3, 2023 - Chatham Men's Basketball defeated Allegheny at home Tuesday evening by the score of 87-77. With the win, the Cougars improve to 6-6 on the year and 5-2 in conference play.

In the game, senior guard Marcos Cintron scored his 1000th career point on a midrange jumper with 1:25 left. Cintron led the Cougars with 26 points on 9-15 shooting. Junior guard Simon Boyer dropped 21 points and was 5-8 from beyond the arc. Sophomore guards Blaine Gartley and Isaiah Smith each led the Cougars with seven rebounds a piece. Gartley also paced the team with five assists and four steals.

Both offenses came out hot in the AFC, as five of the game's first six field goals were threes. The Cougars went on a 15-4 run to take a 24-15 lead in the first half, but the Gators countered with an 18-6 run of their own to go up 33-30. Chatham went into the break with a 46-45 lead following the high-scoring half. It was a close contest for most of the second half, but Chatham's scoring depth provided them with a double-digit lead with six minutes left that would not be surrendered.

The Gators narrowly out rebounded the Cougars 34-33 and the turnover battle went to Chatham at 13-11. The Cougars were 8-9 (88.9%) from the line, while the Gators were just 3-6 (50.0%).
