Women’s Hockey Downs Alvernia in Overtime Thriller

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - January 28, 2023 - Cougar Women's Hockey bounced back from last night's 3-2 loss to Alvernia with a one-goal game of their own.

Alvernia struck before the first minute of the game had even elapsed, and the Cougars would not get the equalizer until just over one second left in the period. Junior Kaylynn Savoy banked the puck off of the Alvernia goaltender after graduate student Ashley Marchant passed off of the boards behind her.

The Golden Wolves would be the lone scorers in the second, coming out with two.

Down 3-1 with only 20 minutes remaining, the Cougars turned up the intensity. Senior Brooke Almond collected a rebound from junior Ariel Garbin and found the back of the net to cut the goal deficit down to one.

Sophomore Rainey Jessup would be the MVP of regulation, scoring the game-tying goal with a mere 40 seconds to spare. She was assisted by junior Cameron Carmody.

Overtime was short-lived thanks to junior Ally Nolan. Brooke Almond won the face-off and sent the puck over to Nolan, who walked through the zone and across the net for a top-shelf game-winner.

Almond was the sole Cougar to record two points on her goal and assist. She also went a game-high 15-3 in the circle.

In goal, junior Lilly Rogers made 20 stops in the victory.

The Cougars hit the road next weekend for a series at Stevenson as they look to keep their win streak going.
