PITTSBURGH, Pa. - January 27, 2023 - Chatham Women's Hockey hosted Alvernia tonight in the first matchup of their regular season series. The Golden Wolves maintained the lead throughout despite a valiant effort late in the game from the Cougars. The contest ended 3-2 in favor of the visitors.
The first period remained scoreless for both teams, but Alvernia would open up the scoring in the second with back-to-back goals.
Senior
Dena Akers would find the back of the net with a long-range slapshot, assisted by junior
Allison Corser-James. Unfortunately, Alvernia would score their third and final goal just over a minute later.
With under two minutes remaining in the game, junior
Lauren Carmody scored off of a feed from Akers on a 6-on-5.Â
The Cougars were unable to even the score despite some last minute shots on goal.
Akers ended the night with a team-high two points and a +2 rating. Next to Akers, graduate student
Ashley Marchant had a game-high three blocks.
First-year
Sam Brophy made 18 stops in net.
The Cougars look to earn the weekend split tomorrow against the Golden Wolves once again. Puck drop is at 7 PM at the Hunt Armory.
