Men’s Hockey Falls to Stevenson in Shootout

REISTERSTOWN, MD - January 20, 2023 - Chatham Men's Hockey headed south for their first of two games against Stevenson University tonight. After a goal-for-goal affair resulting in a shootout, the Cougars would ultimately walk away with one point.

Chatham would score first on the power-play at the halfway point of the first period. First-year Caden Smith knocked the puck home in front thanks to efforts from sophomore blue liners Matthew Doyle and Zack Conner.

Stevenson would score two straight goals, one to finish the first and one to start the second. First-year Nick Cyprian scored off of a pass from classmate Michael Hurst, and the two would connect again just ten minutes later for set up Caden Smith for his second of the night.

Cyprian's third point of the night came from a cross ice pass that was fired by Doyle to score the Cougars' fourth and final goal between Stevenson's two equalizers.

In overtime, Chatham had three shots on goal but no luck. The shootout that followed saw goals from Chatham's Smith and Oscar Saarinen.

In goal for the Cougars, Ricardo Gonzalez made 31 saves.

In the circle, Caden Smith won a team-high nine draws, followed by classmate Bekk McClaine with eight.

Cyprian and newcomer True Crowe each finished with team-high +2 ratings.

The Cougars look to even the score tomorrow night at 7, again against the hosting Mustangs.
