PITTSBURGH, Pa. - January 14, 2023 - Chatham Women's Hockey hosted Utica in their series finale tonight, which resulted in a 5-2 final in Utica's favor.
Utica came out hard with two goals in the first, outshooting the Cougars 17 to 13.
Senior Brooke Almond would cut the goal deficit in half less than one minute into the second period. The power-play goal was scored thanks to passes from juniors Cameron Carmody and Kaylynn Savoy before Almond tucked a snapshot under the crossbar.
Utica would net two early in the third, but the Cougars were not done. Carmody tipped a feed set up by Savoy and graduate student Ashley Marchant, once again cutting the score in half.
A late Utica penalty and an empty net on Chatham's behalf would give them a 6-on-4 opportunity, but Utica's Santullo found the open net while looking to ice it.
Chatham totaled 23 blocks in the game, led by Marchant and senior Dena Akers with five apiece. Behind them was first-year Sam Brophy, who made 42 saves in the effort.
The Cougars look to start a win streak next weekend on the road at Lebanon Valley. The UCHC series begins Friday, January 20th at 7 PM in Hershey.
