Men's Hockey Battles to Overtime Victory at Alvernia

READING, Pa. - January 14, 2023 - Chatham Men's Hockey capped off their regular-season UCHC series with Alvernia today after a shootout loss last night. The Cougars would fight for a hard-earned split this evening with a 4-3 overtime victory.

Alvernia capitalized on their momentum from last night, going up by three before Chatham could find the back of the net. The third period, however, was all Chatham's.

Andrew Warhoftig would net a short-handed goal just under four minutes into the period with help from Carson Grainer. Later in the period, Evan Mitchell reduced the goal deficit to one with assists from Zack Conner and Caden Smith.

Defenseman Matt Doyle would come up huge with just 11 seconds to spare, scoring the equalizer. Oscar Saarinen and Andrew Warhoftig were credited with assists.

Overtime was short-lived thanks to Zack Conner, who capitalized on a net drive brought on by Andrew Warhoftig, who picked off a Golden Wolves pass in the defensive zone before creating a two-on-one.

Warhoftig finished the game with three points, and Conner trailed with two. On the offensive front, Nick Cyprian and Evan Mitchell each won 10 face-offs, followed by Bekk McClaine with nine.

In goal, Ricardo Gonzalez was busy with 32 total saves, including 15 in the second period alone. To Gonzalez' aid, Zack Conner had a team-high three blocks while Aidan Girduckis, Chris Dusek, and True Crowe each contributed two.

The Cougars now stand at 9-4-1 overall and 8-3-1 in the UCHC. They continue their road tour with a series at Stevenson next Friday and Saturday.
