Men’s Hockey Suffers Shootout Loss to Alvernia

READING, Pa. - January 13, 2023 - Chatham Men's Hockey traveled to Alvernia University today for their first of two conference matchups against the Golden Wolves. After coming back from a two-goal deficit, the Cougars would ultimately fall in a multi-round shootout.

Alvernia would score in both the first and second periods, beginning the third with a 2-0 lead. Chatham would retaliate first with a power-play goal scored by Caden Smith, assisted by Matthew Doyle and Zack Conner.

The hosts would score yet again to mitigate Chatham's goal, but the Cougars responded back with two goals less than one minute apart. Their second goal of the night was scored by Heath Drye with help from Oscar Saarinen and Doyle once again. Doyle would record his third assist of the night on the following goal, scored by Andrew Warhoftig with a secondary assist credited to Nick Cyprian.

Chatham and Alvernia saw several scoring chances in over time, all of which were shut down by Ricardo Gonzalez and Alvernia's Cain.

The shootout remained scoreless until Brendan Pomerantz found the back of the net. Alvernia would score on their next attempt to re-tie the affair, but scored for the final time four shooters later.

The Cougars come away from tonight's competition with one point.

The Cougars look to earn victory tomorrow at 5 PM when they face off against the Golden Wolves once again.
