Box Score WAYNESBURG, Pa. – May 8, 2022 – The Chatham University baseball team concluded the 2022 season with an 8-4 defeat to the hosting Waynesburg Yellow Jackets Sunday afternoon.
After a scoreless first inning, Chatham found itself behind the eight ball, figuratively and literally. The Cougars surrendered all eight runs in the second and third innings, with three coming in the second and five in the third. This chased junior starter
Eric Paulin out of the contest after 2.1 innings.
Chatham took six innings to find an answer, an RBI single by first-year
Quinn Burke scoring classmate
Brady Wingeart. In the eighth, senior
Frank Peluso laced a two-RBI double to drive home fellow seniors
Caleb Lehman and
Nico Cuello. Peluso was brought home on an RBI single up the middle by sophomore
Dylan Vogel.
Much like yesterday, both teams had little trouble hitting the ball with Chatham narrowly getting outhit 10-9. Wingeart, Burke, and Vogel each had a pair of hits, while Cuello and Peluso had a hit and run scored, and first-year
Tyler Cote was responsible for the final hit. Burke hit a triple, Vogel a double.
Including Paulin, six different Cougars took the mound. After Paulin's exit, senior
Mason Akers took over and pitched a solid two innings, allowing one hit and striking out a batter. The fifth inning was completed by first-year
David McSorley, also recording a strikeout. The final three innings were completed by sophomore
Mason Schwartz, classmate
Mitchell Thornton, and first-year
Aidan Callinan.
The loss wraps up Chatham's season at 13-25 overall and 5-22 in PAC play.
