LATROBE, Pa. – April 2, 2022 – The Chatham University baseball team fell in a close, low-scoring affair in Latrobe, losing to Saint Vincent 3-1. Chatham falls to 6-9 overall and 0-6 in PAC play.
After two scoreless innings, Saint Vincent broke even with an RBI single in the third. The Cougars wasted little time responding with senior
Caleb Lehman finding free real estate and getting aboard. He stole second, then later came home on a throwing error on a pickoff attempt. The score read 1-1 after four.
Saint Vincent got the eventual game-winning base hit in the bottom of the fifth after the run that came across was put on via Chatham's only error. Both teams had one error, leading to runs. The Bearcats then added insurance in the eighth inning to go up 3-1.
Chatham had its chances, outhitting the Bearcats 9-7 for the game. However, the Cougars stranded nine base runners for the game which undone the visitors. Lehman and first-year
Quinn Burke both went 2/4 for the game with Lehman scoring once.
Two Cougar pitchers went four innings apiece. First-year
Tyler Cote started and retired six batters via strikeouts. However, the loss was taken by junior
Eric Paulin despite striking out three.
Chatham and Saint Vincent tango again tomorrow at West Field in a PAC double header beginning at 1:00.
