Box Score 1 BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – April 11, 2022 – In a double header turned into a single completed game, the Chatham baseball team dropped its second straight to Geneva College, falling 12-5 in a seven-inning contest. The second game was suspended in the third inning with the Golden Tornadoes leading 1-0.
Chatham, who's record is 6-13 overall and 0-10 in PAC play, got on the board first with a full count RBI base hit by senior
Nico Cuello in the top of the second. Then the Golden Tornadoes scored three in the bottom of the inning to go up 3-1. Geneva would not relinquish the lead for the remainder and only add on in the fourth, going up 6-1.
Chatham made a late run in the sixth inning, scoring four times. Senior
Caleb Lehman brought in the second run on a fielder's choice, then three RBI singles scored the next three. First-year
Anthony Sciulli had one on a pinch-hit RBI single, sophomore
Dylan Vogel added another, then Cuello got his second RBI on another base hit. Unfortunately, Geneva piled it on in response with six runs scored, putting the game away 12-5.
Chatham was dispelled by six errors, the most by a Cougar team this season. It was also out-hit 13-6 for the game, with the lone extra base hit coming courtesy of first-year
Josh Griener in his second appearance in a Cougar uniform.
Senior
Ryan Denz started and took the loss after tossing 3.2 innings and recording the only strikeout. Sophomore
Mason Schwartz concluded the fourth inning. The fifth inning was hurled by sophomore
Mitchell Thornton, while combining in the final inning were senior
Kelli Jenkins and first-year
Kole Mayle.
Game two began with the Golden Tornadoes getting on the board immediately after a double steal before the game was suspended due to weather. Both teams will now look for a common date to complete game two.
Until then, the Cougars' sights are set to tomorrow night when they host Washington & Jefferson in a single nine-inning game at home. First pitch is at 7:30.
