ASHLAND, Va. – March 26, 2022 – The Cougars fell behind early and dropped a non-conference road game at Randolph-Macon 22-7 Saturday afternoon. Chatham's record dips to 2-7.
The Yellow Jackets scored the game's first seven goals, with graduate
Patrick Brunner putting Chatham on the board with 41 ticks remaining in the first after an assist by senior
Nicholas Guaglione. Randolph-Macon led 11-1 before first-year
Tom Curtin scored the unassisted score late in the second. Chatham trailed 14-2 at the break.
With the Cougars out of reach of the Yellow Jackets, Chatham got five second half goals, two in the third and three in the fourth. The next three Cougar goals came courtesy of senior
Andrew Mattingly, with first-year
Rei O'Brien assisting on the first and last goals and classmate
Justin Cook helping on the second. First-year
Ethan Rinker and Brunner scored the other Cougar goals in the second half.
Chatham was outshot 51-34 for the game, including 37-19 on goal. First-year
Zen Smith started and took the loss in 55:30, making 15 saves.
The Cougars begin PAC play on Saturday, April 2 at Westminster beginning at 4:00.
