PITTSBURGH, Pa. - March 19, 2022 - Chatham Women's Lacrosse hosted Alfred University this evening in a non-conference matchup. Despite a close first half, the Cougars would turn on the offense to finish the game with a 13-8 win.
Alfred would score the first goal of the game, which was quickly recovered by two straight goals from first-year Samantha Beall-Dennell. To cap off the quarter, sophomore Natalie Smith would find the back of the net.
The Cougars would score three more goals in the third thanks to seniors Rachel Borucki and Brielle Rapsas. These goals would prove crucial as the Saxons elevated their own goal count to four, leaving Chatham with just a two-goal lead.
Chatham would break open the scoring at the start of the third with yet another three-goal performance. This time, Rapsas would start the quarter before junior Phallon Kilduff and sophomore Stephanie Walter each netted their first goals of the night. Heading into the final 15, the Cougars boasted a 9-4 lead.
Beall-Dennell would complete her hat trick in the fourth before Kilduff and Walter followed by increasing their individual score counts to two apiece. Although the Saxons would score four times, their efforts were too little and too late. First-year Syba Ismail would finalize the game with her first collegiate goal, just 15 seconds remaining.
With the win, the Cougars improve to 3-1 overall. Their next contest is scheduled for Wednesday, March 23rd against Juniata at Graham Field.
