PITTSBURGH, Pa. – March 16, 2022 – The Chatham men's lacrosse team got off to a good start but could not keep that momentum up for the remainder of the game as it fell to Hood College 19-9. Chatham's record falls to 1-5.
The Cougars wasted little-to-no time getting on the scoreboard, taking just 17 seconds for senior
Nicholas Guaglione to put Chatham on the board. It was followed up with a goal by first-year
Justin Cook after an assist from graduate
Patrick Brunner at around five minutes in. Hood struck back but the Cougars scored twice in response. Senior
Adam Bleess scored all on his lonesome while first-year
Rei O'Brien assisted senior
Andrew Mattingly on the fourth score.
Hood went on to tie the game late in the first after three straight Blazer goals. Bleess and classmate
Kyle Rullan scored goals 31 seconds apart, with O'Brien and first-year
Ethan Rinker assisting on each tally, respectively. The score after one read 6-5 in favor of the Cougars, but that lead would not last. Chatham was outscored 5-1 in the second with Guaglione scoring the only goal. The Cougars trailed 10-7 at the break.
The third period was the most defensive altogether. Bleess scored his third after an assist by Rullan to kick the quarter off, and Brunner ended the third with an assisted goal from Cook, putting the Cougars behind 13-9 after three. However, Hood pulled away in the fourth for six goals to end the game.
Chatham was outshot 49-27 for the game and 35-17 on goal. First-year
Zen Smith made 15 saves and took the loss in net, while senior
Shane Gaglione finished the final 3:19 of the game and making a stop.
The Cougars look to rebound on Saturday, March 19 in the Love Strong 51 game against Allegheny at home beginning at 2:30.
