Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Cougars Edged by Wolverines

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - February 9, 2022 - Chatham Women's Basketball traveled to Grove City College this evening for their second regular-season matchup against the Wolverines. The game would ultimately end in favor of the Wolverines by a score of 63-51

Grove City would get the jump on Chatham before first-year Aurielle Brunner would hit a game-tying jumper followed by two made free throws. Graduate student Julianna Skowron would be next on the board for the visitors, followed by senior Aliyah Labriola who worked for six straight points.

Heading into the second quarter with the score at 13-12, both teams would have a similar offensive outcome. Chatham's 11 points would be scored by first-years Zelimar Rodriguez (5), first-year Emily Durkee (2), graduate student Maddy Grennes (2), and Labriola (2) once more while the Wolverines added 14 points to their original 13.

To start the second half, Chatham's offense was outmatched by Grove City's as the teams came out of the third quarter with nine and 25 fresh points respectively. Skowron, Durkee, Brunner, and Labriola would each score two baskets each while junior Sierra McClain added a good free-throw to the mix.

In the fourth, the Cougars came out with an offensive streak that was not yet harnessed in the game. Durkee, McClain, Skowron, and Brunner would combine to close the scoring deficit to just ten after trailing by 20. Durkee would hit three three-pointers in the quarter, aided by points from Rodriguez and McClain. The Cougars' fourth quarter efforts would unfortunately fall short, as Grove City retook the reins to return the lead to 12.

Emily Durkee led the team in points with 13, followed by Aliyah Labriola with ten. Maddy Grennes and Julianna Skowron combined for 19 rebounds. Aurielle Brunner had a game-high four steals.

The Cougars now stand at 8-6 in conference with four regular season games remaining. The Cougars' next competition is Saturday, February 12 at noon, which will also be their Senior Game.
