PITTSBURGH, Pa. - February 12, 2022 - Chatham Women's Basketball hosted Bethany College this afternoon in a conference matchup. The Cougars would end the game with a convincing 67-38 victory to get themselves back in the win column.
Graduate student Maddy Grennes got the scoring started for the Cougars within the first minute of the game before classmate Julianna Skowron jumped in with four points of her own. Scoring responsibility would then fall to the first-years when Zelimar Rodriguez, Aurielle Brunner, and Emily Durkee combined to get the Cougars to 13 points.
Though Bethany would tie the game with the first shot of the second quarter, first-year Keegan McConahy and junior Sierra McClain would get the Cougars up again by making three free throws. Durkee, Grennes, and Rodriguez would get back on the board before the half was through, giving Chatham the 24-21 lead.
The Cougars would break the scoring open in the third, starting with two three-point field goals from junior Riley D'Angelo. Skowron and Brunner would get in two and three points respectively before the next three was landed by Durkee to put the hosts past 40. Skowron, Rodriguez, and Grennes would give the Cougars another eight points to expand the lead to 15.
The Cougars would carry that offensive momentum into the fourth despite valiant comeback attempts from the Bison. Emily Durkee would nail seven straight points to again break another 10-point milestone and get Chatham up to 55. Skowron would score between another Durkee three twice before senior Kelli Jenkins followed suit.
Durkee led the Cougars with 19 points, shooting 8-for-14 overall and 3-for-8 from three-point range. Julianna Skowron followed with 12 and Zelimar Rodriguez had 10. Maddy Grennes led the Cougars in rebounds with nine, followed closely by Skowron with eight.
The Cougars now stand at 9-6 in conference with just three games remaining.
