Aston, Pa. – February 5, 2022 – Despite a 2-0 lead after 40 minutes of play, the Chatham men's hockey team could not hold onto that advantage at Neumann, falling to the Knights 3-2 in overtime. Chatham's record falls to 6-10-2 on the year and 5-6-2 in UCHC play.
After a scoreless first, the Cougars struck twice in the second to put the score at 2-0. First it was junior
Tristan Hillebert getting a pass from classmate
Matt Mood for the ice-breaking score at 7:07. Then later in the period, first-year
Heath Drye scored his first collegiate goal with an assist from sophomore transfer
Jackson Koblick.
With the lead at 2-0, things looked to be in control for the Cougars. Neumann quickly got a goal just 2:16 into the third to slice the lead in half. With time dwindling on the Knights, they tied the game with 3 minutes to spare in regulation, sending the game to overtime. About halfway through the overtime period, a breakaway led to the game winner in overtime, and heartbreak for the Cougars.
Chatham outshot Neumann 37-28 but lost the face-off battle 38-30. Senior
Ricardo Gonzalez made 25 saves in 62:29 in net.
The Cougars return home on Friday, February 11 for the second of two games played this season at the Hunt Armory. Puck drops at 7:00 against UCHC newcomer Arcadia.
