Women’s Hockey Wins OT Thriller at Armory

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - February 4, 2022 - Chatham University Women's Hockey hosted Stevenson University at the Hunt Armory in Shadyside this evening. After a comeback attempt by the Mustangs to force overtime, the Cougars would find the back of the net one last time to end the game.

Sophomore Allison Corser-James would take control of the game from the jump, scoring two goals within 25 seconds of each other. On the first, she was assisted by classmate Ally Nolan and junior Brooke Almond.

The second period would be a scoreless defensive battle for both teams, with senior goaltender Katy Reed making 13 saves as the Cougars fired off 12 of their own at the other end.

The Mustangs would get on the board to start the third period before resorting to chippy play in an attempt to fend off the Cougars while trying for their own equalizer. Chatham would kill a penalty just beyond the halfway point thanks to outstanding defensive efforts by Corser-James, Nolan, and senior Grace Pavlovich. The Cougars would be dealt two more penalties with under three minutes to go, and the Mustangs were unfortunately able to capitalize to force overtime.

In OT, the Cougars would draw a quick penalty for a four-on-three power play opportunity. Allison Corser-James would come up big once again, completing the hat trick after several attempts.

With the win, the Cougars are now 10-7 in conference, winning both of their games at the historic Hunt Armory. The Cougars return to Pittsburgh Ice Arena tomorrow for their series finale against the Mustangs.
