REISTERSTOWN, MD - February 23, 2022 - #5 Chatham traveled to #4 Stevenson this afternoon for the UCHC Quarterfinal round of the 2021-22 Championship Tournament. The Cougars got up early and maintained the leading, giving them a bid to the next round.
The first period was dominated offensively by the Cougars, but would not be rewarded until the last two seconds of the period when sophomore
Ally Nolan scored her 21st goal of the season with an assist ot
Brooke Almond.
Making the most of the momentum, the Cougars had another quick strike, scoring off of the period-opening face-off. Sophomore
Allison Corser-James would find the back of the net off of a play set up by first-year
Samantha Barrett and Almond for her 24th assist of the season. On the penalty kill late in the period, Nolan would intercept a pass and drive to the net, collecting her own rebound before shoveling a backhand shot under to crossbar to give the Cougars the 3-0 lead.
Corser-James would take a page from Nolan's book in the third, scoring on the penalty kill once again to increase the lead to four. Though the Mustangs would eventually find the back of the net, it was too little too late.
Senior goaltender
Katy Reed made 27 saves in net for the win.
The Cougars will face a not-yet-determined opponent on Saturday, February 26th for the UCHC Semifinal.
